5 Sudanese Civilians Killed in RSF Attack on Mosque

An artillery strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sunday evening targeted Al-Rashad Mosque in Omdurman during Maghrib prayers, killing at least five civilians. The attack also injured several others, including children, and left the mosque’s imam severely wounded, according to a statement from Khartoum State authorities.

The incident occurred in the Karrari district, a northern rural area of Omdurman, which has witnessed sporadic clashes between the RSF and the Sudanese army. The RSF has not yet issued a response to the accusations from the Sudanese government.

Humanitarian challenges in the conflict zones remain dire. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported alarming malnutrition levels among women and children in Khartoum, screening over 4,000 individuals and finding more than 1,500 suffering from severe malnutrition. Children are particularly vulnerable, with many affected by both violence and food shortages.

Since April 2023, fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has caused over 20,000 deaths and displaced more than 11 million people. The prolonged conflict has severely impacted access to food, healthcare, and safety, pushing millions toward famine.

Global appeals for a resolution are intensifying, as the crisis spreads across 13 of Sudan’s 18 states. However, with neither side willing to cease hostilities, the humanitarian toll continues to escalate, deepening the suffering of civilians trapped in the war-torn nation.
